Complete Roof Refurbishment to Resolve Structural Deterioration
Primeline Roofing & Building Ltd recently completed a comprehensive roof refurbishment project in Rochester, involving the replacement of worn roofing felt and deteriorated timber battens that had reached the end of their serviceable life.
Following a detailed inspection, it became clear that the existing roofing felt had deteriorated significantly throughout the roof structure, allowing moisture ingress and contributing to the deterioration of the supporting battens. The condition of the roof had also begun to affect the property’s external rendering, with debris and loose material falling onto the pathway below, creating both a safety concern and the risk of further damage.
Roof Strip and Inspection
Our team carefully erected scaffolding to ensure safe access before stripping the existing roof covering. The old tiles were removed and set aside where suitable for reuse, allowing us to fully inspect the roof structure beneath.
Once exposed, the extent of the deterioration became apparent, with the original felt and battens showing signs of age, weather damage and general wear.
New Roofing Felt & Battens
To restore the roof’s integrity, we installed a new breathable roofing membrane across the entire roof area. New treated timber battens were then fitted to current standards, creating a strong and reliable fixing system for the roof tiles.
The existing tiles were reinstalled where appropriate, with damaged tiles replaced as required to ensure a weatherproof finish. Particular attention was paid to the roof details, including the chimney abutments and ridge sections, to provide long-lasting protection against the elements.
Before:
The roof was in a poor condition with the felt and timber battens having deteriorated considerably over time leaving the property vulnerable to ingress of water and weather damage. The roofing system was old and no longer protecting the building properly, causing decay and parts of the external rendering to become loose and fall onto the pathway below.
After:
The roof has been completely renewed with a new breathable felt membrane and treated timber battens to restore strength, stability and weather resistance. The upgraded roofing system will provide long-term protection from the elements, improve the overall condition of the property and remove safety concerns caused by the failing roof structure.

The Finished Result
The completed roof now benefits from a modern breathable felt system and brand-new battens, significantly improving the roof’s structural stability and weather resistance. The work has eliminated the issues that were contributing to the deterioration of the property’s rendering and provides the homeowner with peace of mind that their roof is fully protected for years to come.
